Why Sweet Fish Brew
Feed your soil, not just your plants
Cold Fermented
Low-temperature fermentation preserves much of the bioactive nutrient content that heat processing strips out.
Locally Sourced
Made from wild California fish byproducts and molasses. We know where every ingredient comes from.
Built for Soil Biology
Formulated to support soil microbial health, not just push short-term plant growth.
Transparent Ingredients
Fish hydrolysate and molasses. That's it. No hidden fillers, no synthetic additives, no guesswork.
How to Use
Three ways to feed your garden
Foliar Spray
Spray directly on leaves for fast nutrient uptake. Apply early morning or evening, not in midday sun.
1.5 tbsp per gallon of waterSoil Drench
Water directly into the root zone. Feeds the soil ecosystem where it matters most.
1.5 tbsp per gallon of waterCompost Booster
Add to compost piles to support decomposition and enrich finished compost with sea minerals.
Apply once every 4 weeksFor crop production: apply 3 to 5 gallons per acre as a soil drench, or 1 to 3 gallons per acre as a foliar spray.
What Makes It Different
Not all fish fertilizers are created equal
Hydrolysate, Not Emulsion
Most fish fertilizers are emulsions, made with high heat that breaks down proteins and reduces beneficial microbial content. Sweet Fish Brew is a hydrolysate, cold-fermented to preserve much of the bioactive nutrients, amino acids, and biology your soil needs.
Surplus to Resource
We transform fish byproducts that would otherwise go to waste into a premium soil input: value created from surplus, and less waste leaving the fishing industry.
Cold Fermentation Process
Our fermentation process uses molasses to break down fish byproducts at low temperatures over time. No high heat, no harsh chemicals. The result is a nutrient-dense liquid rich in sea minerals.
Typical Emulsion
Heat-processed at high temperatures Proteins broken down and denatured Most beneficial microbes lost Strong, sharp odor Lower bioactivity
Sweet Fish Brew
Cold-fermented at low temperatures Amino acids and proteins largely preserved Beneficial biology retained Milder, yeasty ferment scent Higher bioactive nutrient content

Our Story
Founded by a Fisher, a Rancher, and an Ecologist
Marino Soil Foods started with a shared question: what do you do with waste nobody else wants? Each founder brings hands-on experience from the industries that source our ingredients, in fishing, ranching, and ecological science.
We're a women-owned public benefit corporation rooted in California's Central Coast, turning underutilized resources into inputs that build soil and support regional food systems.

Questions
Frequently Asked
Does Sweet Fish Brew smell bad?
It has a scent. You are working with fermented fish, so there is an odor. Because Sweet Fish Brew is cold-fermented rather than heat-processed like emulsions, the smell is milder and more yeasty than sharp. It fades after application, and most gardeners find it manageable.
What's the difference between hydrolysate and emulsion?
Fish emulsion is made with high heat, which breaks down proteins and reduces beneficial microbial content. Fish hydrolysate is cold-processed, preserving much of the amino acids, enzymes, and biology. The result is a more bioactive product that feeds soil biology, not just plants.
Is it safe for edible gardens?
Yes. Sweet Fish Brew is made from California wild fish byproducts and molasses. It is suitable for vegetable gardens, fruit trees, herbs, and other edible crops. Follow the application rates on the label.
How long does a gallon last?
At the recommended rate of 1.5 tablespoons per gallon of water applied every four weeks, a single gallon lasts most home gardens an entire growing season.
How should I store it?
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and keep the container sealed when not in use. The product is shelf-stable, and performs best when used within the growing season after opening.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes, we ship throughout the United States. Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location and order size. The 5 gallon size is local pickup only.
