Feed the soil, not just the plants
Soil microbes break down the keratin fibers gradually, releasing nitrogen over months rather than all at once. The wool absorbs water and swells, holding moisture in the root zone and building soil structure as it breaks down.
Because nitrogen releases slowly, the pellets carry virtually no burn risk to seedlings. Work them in once and they keep working through the season.

Good to know. The pellets absorb water and swell, so give beds a deep first watering after working them in. Store sealed in a cool, dry place: shelf life is indefinite as long as they stay dry.

Where it comes from
The wool comes from Jenya Schneider's Merino flock, which grazes coastal Santa Barbara County hillsides for fire fuel mitigation. At least half of shorn wool in the US is unmarketable for textiles. This is that wool, pelletized instead of thrown away.
